"The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated." - Gandhi About Animal Zone InternationalAZI is a nonprofit organization founded in 2007. AZI is dedicated to the protection of animals and the environment, the establishment of veterinary clinics on a free or low-cost basis, and providing education for the general public toward the humane treatment of animals. From the FoundersWhy start our program in the Cyclades? One simple reason. For years we have been visiting Greece, and we have fallen in love with her islands. Greece is a singular cradle of beauty, a true paradise on earth. But in many places, animals don't receive adequate care. So, as an act of love and respect, we thought to help local volunteers of Amorgos in their efforts. And we soon realized that even a simple gesture can make a huge difference. To be indifferent tourists was not acceptable to us. If each of us, every day, addressed the problems we all face, our world would advance in leaps and bounds. What We've DoneWe initiated our work on Amorgos, the easternmost island of the Cyclades in Greece.
There, in the village of Xilokeratidi, we began a two-fold pilot program focusing on 1) curbing the population of stray and abandoned dogs and cats and treating them for diseases and parasites, and 2) the implementation of an educational program consisting of lectures, posters and books. And we have since expanded to the villages of Nera', Katapola and Raxidi. Our Present Goals in Amorgos
